Indian Users Will Have To Pay $100 More To Own Apple iPhones Due To New 15% US Tariffs

A lot of Apple consumer electronics will be also hit with the new 15-percent tariff. They include TVs, flash drives, lithium-ion batteries, digital cameras, speakers, and more.

After the latest 15-percent US tariffs on Chinese goods have officially taken effect from September 01, users may have to pay much more to own one or more Apple products including iPhones, Apple Watch, AirPods, iMac computers, and HomePods.

The products of the US tech giant has been assembled by the Taiwanese electronics manufacturing company Foxconn.

According to the US Federal Register:

In addition, iPhones may cost about $100 more in the United States when the 15-percent tariffs move to the next phase on December 15.

TechCrunch reports that a lot of Apple consumer electronics will be hit with the new 15-percent tariff. They include TVs, flash drives, lithium-ion batteries, digital cameras, speakers, and more. The affected products are listed in up to 122 pages. And there is no doubt that consumers will finally become the major victims of these higher prices.

In a recent talk with US President, the CEO of Apple Tim Cook also expressed his anxiety that the US’s move would bring a lucrative opportunity to Samsung because no tariff is applied to products provided by the tech company in South Korea.

In addition to iPhones, a lot of Apple consumer electronics will be hit with the new 15-percent tariff.

The increasing tension between the US-Sino trade war has led to the 3-percent rise in the production costs of Apple iPhones. This move took place after Beijing applied the new tariffs which were supposed to retaliate the United States.

US President previously had a meeting with Tim Cook. The most powerful man in the US revealed that the tech giant would continue spending “vast sums of money in the US.” Trump noted,

After the new 10-percent tariff is applied, users will have to pay about $110 more to own the iPhone XS Max.

The manufacturing base of Samsung is mainly located in Vietnam and South Korea.

At the beginning of August, CBS News forecasted that iPhone sales in the global markets including the United States and China could reduce by 8-10 million. After the new 10-percent tariff is applied, users will have to pay about $110 more to own the iPhone XS Max (it is now sold for $1,099).

Apple has not given any comment on whether the company had any plan to increase its products' prices or not. However, JP Morgan analysts also hope that it can bear the costs.

Back to four months ago, in May, Dan Ives, an analyst at Wedbush, said to investors that the US tariffs on Chinese goods including batteries and components might lead to a 3-percent increase in the manufacturing costs of Apple products.
