Apple made a very controversial decision to omit the wall charging brick from the boxes of Apple Watches and iPhone 12 phones, citing environmental issues as the reason behind the omission.

While Samsung initially mocked the decision, it will reportedly follow suit.

According to Sammobile, Samsung will remove both the earphones and the wall charger from the package of the upcoming Galaxy S21.

Apple doesn’t lower the price of the iPhone 12 all while charging the missing accessories separately. So if you intend to buy an iPhone 12 and happen to have no compatible charging brick, you will have to buy one.

If Samsung adopts this idea, the company might make everything more tolerable for buyers by slashing the price of the Galaxy S21.

Samsung and Apple aren’t the only phone makers that are getting serious with environmental issues. Xiaomi recently announced its plan to cut 60% of plastic use in phone packaging, starting with the European market.

A few days ago, Google also made public its commitment to integrate recycled material in 100% of its hardware by 2022. However, neither Google nor Xiaomi has said anything about not including a charging brick with future phones.

In the last few years, most Android smartphones have adopted USB-C with the charging brick ports are either USB-A or USB-C. So if well-known phone makers decide to omit the charging brick, it’s highly likely that the one you have isn’t compatible with the new phone.
