Just a few months ago, telecom companies decided to raise their tariff prices. Reliance Jio was among these brands. However, the increased price wasn’t massive and was bearable. But it seems like Reliance Jio hasn’t quite done yet.
The company has revealed that it would increase the data prices from Rs 15 per GB to Rs 20 per GB. Jio has asked the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India for data prices’ floor price.
Jio wants TRAI to raise the minimum floor price to RS 20 for 1GB of data in two to three tranches so that the consumers can get used to the raise. A 461% increase that would increase the whole industry’s data prices.
So why there is a sudden increase in tariff prices? If you don’t know about what is going on in the telecom sector of India. It isn’t in good shape. While Jio still makes money, Airtel and Vodafone are struggling, having to pay their dues of Rs 36,000 and Rs 53,000 crore respectively.
As per Jio, this floor price revision will help the distressed telecom factor. The brand recommends that the revised pricing should not only be for individuals but also for corporate segments.
With the recent price revision, Jio still offers the cheapest tariff among other telecom companies with 4G data speeds. But unlike Vodafone and Airtel, Jio customers have to pay 60 paise per minute if they want to call non-Jio numbers.
