Realme 5G Phones Will Be Ready Soon In India

Realme 5G phones may be ready soon, but Indian telcos may not.

According to an interview between news agency IANS and Madhav Sheth - CEO of Realme India, the company’s devices which support 5G technology will be available before Indian telecom providers start operating their 5G infrastructure and network. However, it's remained unclear about an exact timeline of when Realme’s 5G phones will be rolled out.

At present, some of the biggest operators including Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, and Vodafone are expected to roll out their trials as soon as possible. Previously, a report by PTI disclosed 5G technology is unlikely to arrive in the country until the year 2020, even when telcos gear up to launch their 5G facilities at this time.

In the meantime, smartphone makers like Xiaomi, Samsung as well as Oppo’s sub-brand Realme have listed their upcoming 5G devices. Samsung has the Galaxy S10 variant with 5G support. Xiaomi released the Mi Mix 3 Xiaomi alongside OnePlus 7 Pro 5G from OnePlus. Unfortunately, most of them are yet to be ready for the Indian market. For now, the Galaxy S10 is only limited to US consumers, and the OnePlus 7 Pro 5G will be available in the UK and Finland at first.

Without a doubt, Realme is showing its high enthusiasm with the Indian market. On March 12, 2019, the Oppo-owned brand recorded a number of over 1.70 lakh of Realme 3 model were sold online in less than eight minutes when those phones were listed to be sold online for the first time. The phone was priced at Rs 8,999 when Realme first launched it in order to compete with the Redmi Note 7 Pro in India.

By the end of this year, Realme has an ambitious goal which is said to achieve 1.5 crore smartphone shipments. It should be noted that for now, the company is among the top smartphone vendors in the country along with Oppo, Xiaomi, Vivo, and Samsung. According to data compiled from IDC, Realme managed to take about six percent of market share in Q1 with 6.6 million units in sales.
Realme now is one-year-old in the Indian market. Thanks to the focus on budget-segment smartphones, the company has been growing speedily in a price-sensitive market like India.
