According to the latest report by Counterpoint Research in New Delhi: It is estimated that in the next three years, more than 100 crores feature phones are put up for sale in the market. It is forecasted to create $16 billion approximately in the total revenues for selling hardware globally.
India continues to hold the first position as the biggest market for possible feature phone amounts. Bangladesh and Nigeria are the next two countries to be ranked after India in that terms.
In comparison with the smartphone market, the feature phone market has developed rapidly. While the smartphone market was first entered into an agreement by contract in 2018, the feature phone market has increased fast with the amount of sold 40 crores feature phones over the last three years, according to Counterpoint research.
As the Research Director at Counterpoint Research, Peter Richardson stated:
It is believed that there will be over 100 crores feature phones delivered by 2021.
So, what creates a large number of feature phones in the Indian market? In India, the feature phones are combined between the renewal of the Nokia-branded feature phones and reputation of the Jio Phone. These traditional handsets sport a chipset and an operating system which offer the same features with a complex smartphone.
Besides, according to Tarun Pathak, Associate Director at Counterpoint Research, the price for buying a smartphone is not easy for everyone, especially those who are struggling to earn a living with low income. Above the world, it is known that there are more than 300 crores people who are living with low income at less $2.50 per day. They cannot afford to buy a smartphone with full of data services in the situation of increasing improvement in using smartphones. Therefore, a feature phone with a normal mobile service is the best option for users to communicate.
In addition, feature phones are now able to deploy the 4G network. It is another plus for them to maintain stability in the medium aspect.
