Nokia had gone its heyday, on which the brand name apparently was a synonym of indestructible candy-bar phones for decades. However, you might be unaware of a Nokia-branded widescreen TV line in the mid-90s, but the plan was halted afterward. The company now is about to re-put its effort into making smart TVs as it’s reportedly bringing a range of those devices to Indian customers.
Flipkart – the Amazon-backed retail giant in India – will license the brand name across the country. Note that it’s not something odd because Flipkart also does the same strategy and setup for HMD’s Nokia-labeled smartphones. Of course, there’s not too much information related to the device at this early stage, but here’s a detail that we know so far: the smart TV will come packed with ‘JBL by Harman’-supported sound. As commented by India Today, this could be its first foray into the country’s TV market.
Just a few months ago, OnePlus also initiated a similar plan when launching its own smart TVs in India. As such, Nokia becomes the runner-up in the race. This is also expected to level up Nokia’s position here, maybe taking more attention from Indian users to get along with not only Nokia’s TVs but also other products made by the company, especially smartphones. If successful, Nokia will be able to set a strong foothold in the Indian consumer market, despite how hard the competition has been.
