More iPhone Owners Are Trading For Android Devices, Says Study

The loyalty of Apple users seemed a little bit unstable.

The conflict between iPhone and Android users may never be shut down in the future, but for your information, the truth is that the number of people trading in their old iPhones for newer iPhone models is decreasing. To track the brand loyalty of Apple owners, a phone trading platform called BankMyCell has compiled data from nearly 40,000 people during their phone upgrading cycle from October 2018 to June 2019. Surprisingly, a rate of 18.1 percent of iPhone users traded in their handsets for Samsung phones in June, marked as the highest level recorded during the study.

More than 90 percent of Galaxy S9 owners in the survey continued using Android OS.

Instead of changing to a new brand, Samsung users have proved their loyalty. It was reportedly more than 90 percent of Galaxy S9 owners continuing using Android OS, and only a few switched over to iPhones. As for iPhone X owners, the figure of people moving onto other brands was 26%.

In the meantime, Apple didn’t make any comments over the surveyed numbers. However, it should be noted that these numbers actually don’t represent overall sales, including Apple itself, carrier stores as well as auction sites, though the loyalty of Apple users seemed a little bit unstable, not like what most of us have thought for years.

According to a report by Kantar on Wednesday, iOS devices took over 36% of phone sales during the second quarter of 2019 in the US, down 2.4% from the last year-on-year quarter. By contrast, Android device sales were up 2.5%. Apple sales could appear to be down, but other businesses of the tech giant are picking up, especially its new entertainment services.

The global phone shipments are predicted to fall by nearly 70 million devices this year – the worst decline ever – as reported by Gartner.
