The announcement was posted on Microsoft Store’s official Twitter account, saying that all the stores are now shuttered due to health concerns over COVID-19. The stores will remain closed until the company has further notices. The tweet also says that the company will still provide services and help as many businesses, families, and remote workers are still working online amid the pandemic.

According to the company’s site, there are 83 Microsoft Stores around the world, 73 of which are located in the US where COVID-19 is breaking out rapidly. The closure of the stores follows a warning from the country’s president Donal Trump against the gatherings of ten or more people.

Last week, the iPhone announced to close its stores worldwide until March 27. However, on Tuesday, the tech giant extended the closure to indefinite. Late last month, Apple shuttered its 42 China-based stores to prevent the coronavirus from spreading further. But last week, all of them were reopened as the country appeared to be recovering from the pandemic.

After COVID-19 broke out and developed fast in Asia, especially China and South Korea, the pandemic continued to strike Europe and now the US with thousands of new cases and hundreds of new deaths every day. On the global scale, the coronavirus has confirmed almost 200,000 infected cases and claimed nearly 8,000 deaths, with China, Italy, and Iran taking the worst hit in terms of people. meanwhile, India has had at least 142 cases and 3 deaths since COVID-19 spread to the country.
