It looks like the global smartphone market is recovering with the shipment in the third quarter of 2019 reaching 380 million units, according to Counterpoint Research. Its analyst Shobhit Srivastava said that the long, continuous fall in the global smartphone market has ended thanks to the shipment growth in India as well as China.
The global market
Samsung had the highest shipment, registering 21% due to the high demand for the Galaxy Note and Galaxy A devices. meanwhile, Huawei maintained the second spot with 18% of the total market share. Apple occupied the third place with a decrease of 4% in smartphone shipments, resulting in an 11% downfall in its year-over-year revenues.
Apple, Samsung, and Huawei together account for almost 50% of the global market. And the rest is taken by hundreds of companies. Among those, Realme was growing the fastest, earning the seventh place globally though it’s just more than one year old. In Q3 2019, the company shipped a total of 10.2 million smartphones. To compare, in the same quarter last year, it registered only 1.3 million.
It was also revealed in the report that BBK Group, including OnePlus, Realme, Vivo, and Oppo, is on their way to becoming the biggest smartphone maker in the world. The group is currently making up 20% of the global market and has three bands making it to the top 10.
The growth in the Indian market
India seems to have risen above the economic slowdown, and got the highest shipment figure ever in the third quarter of 2019, registering a year-over-year growth of 10%. In Q3 2019, the smartphone shipment in the Indian market reached 49 million units, which may be due to Diwali launches, discounts, and aggressive marketing.
Xiaomi is still the best-selling brand in the country with 26 percent of total market share. The company got the highest shipment ever although its market share fell from 27 percent in the third quarter of 2018. Samsung is the second-largest brand and Oppo, Realme, and Vivo are close behind.
