Here Is Everything New With The Revamped Apple TV App

Apple has a grand plan to be the market leader in entertainment

In March, Apple revealed that it had decided to go big with the television sector. This announcement was made in an event starring household names like Steven Spielberg and Oprah Winfrey. And the company’s first few moves have already taken shape, one of them is the Apple TV app.

This brand new app has lots of new functions, one of the most noticeable is the fact that users can subscribe to channels they want right from the app. The company also has a paid original content service called Apple TV Plus on the way. It will have shows featuring Spielberg, Winfrey, and many other well-known names. The service has not been out yet, but it has been scheduled to be launched in fall.

Apple’s TV app was released on Monday on iPad, iPhone, Samsung Smart TV, Apple TV, through the updates of iOS 12.3 and tvOS.

Here are what’s new with Apple heading to its television target:

Apple TV Channels

What people are excited the most about the redesigned TV app is the ability of users to subscribe to the channels they like right from the app, one of Apple’s strategies to gain the leading spot in entertainment. According to Apple, the app has Starz, HBO, CBS All Access, EPIX, Tastemade, the Smithsonian Channel, MTV Hits, and Noggin. More channels are coming in the near future.

You will realize a consistency in the appearance of Apple TV app as the company has designed each channel page to be in the same style.

Downloadable Content For Offline Viewing

The fact that the company allows users to download content through Apple TV channels for viewing offline has given it the obvious edge over other movie streaming services. Not many people can stay connected to the Internet all the time so this feature will allow them to watch their favorite shows whenever they want.

You cannot do the same thing on Now and HBO’s GO app so if you take another step and subscribe to HBO through Apple, you can have benefits like watching your favorite shows without an Internet connection.

An Updated Design With More Personalization

Apple’s redesign is about cosmetic improvements and also some upgrades to give the app more personalization.

The interface of the Watch Now section is now card-like and when you click on the shows, a page with more details and artwork will show up. Users do not have to leave the main interface to switch to another title as the app allows you to swipe to cycle among them right from this mode.

The Watch Now tab also gets some personalization. Access the What to watch row and you will see titles ranked according to your preference. This is the result of both machine and human work to come up with bespoke content.

The way Apple put forward content also gets improvement. With the initial version, you also get the ones you have subscribed to, but now, it will suggest other content available in Apple TV channels too.

You can also pick up from where you left off with the help of the Up Next Section. It will show you the programs you are watching, plus, it works across all devices. If you have bought content on iTunes, you can find them in the Library section.

A New Kids Tab

There is a Kids tab in Apple TV app now with programs cherry-picked for children by the company’s editors themselves, not some kind of algorithm. If you want to use the app for the whole family, it supports up to six people on the same channel subscriptions with Family Sharing.
