Facebook Security Feature Reportedly Leaves Users’ Phone Numbers Open For Advertisers

Facebook has now faced a new wave of protest concerning its security feature called two-factor authentication (or 2FA for short), which requires its users to offer their phone numbers to enhance the security level for their accounts. What’s surprising here is that advertisers can easily search for all these data.

The security feature is developed to help Facebook users protect their identities on its platform. However, according to a report from the USA Today on March 04, other users including troublesome advertisers can see these phone numbers.

Jeremy Burge, as the host of Emojipedia, was the one to start the controversy. He revealed that users’ numbers have been found by the two-factor authentication.

In September 2018, the company reportedly leveraged the security information of its users to offer for advertisers, according to a Gizmodo report.

In addition, the Guardian stated that Facebook has received questions regarding settings of phone numbers and the 2FA on its platform.

An ex-CIS officer named Alex Stamos also criticized what the 2FA could do in reality.
