In 2008, Bill Gates stopped his full-time work at Microsoft, and in 2014, he stepped down from the chairman position. Over almost 20 years, his focus has shifted from PC to philanthropy. However, although he reduced his workload at the company and gave away money, Gates is now the richest person in the world, again.
As of November 16, Bill Gates’net worth is $110 billion, as reported by Bloomberg. That number was a little higher than Jeff Bezos’, whose net worth is now $109 billion. Since 2008, Bezos, Carlos Slim, Warren Buffet, and the likes have out-earned Gates many times.
While Gates has sold about $35 billion of his stock at Microsoft for funding the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, he remains to own an incredible amount of stocks at the company. According to Bloomberg’s record, his net worth has increased by winning a $10 billion contract with the Pentagon as well as a rise in the price of the firm’s stock.
On June 22, the stock price registered $136, which has now increased to nearly $150.
Meanwhile, Bezos’ net worth underwent to falls in the past few months when he lost billions of dollars after Amazon underperformed in Q3 2019 and about $35 billion to his ex-wife Mackenzie Bezos when they got divorced.
And the ironic thing here is that when Gates last made headlines, he spoke at the NYT DealBook conference where he questioned the proposed expanded wealth tax of Elizabeth Warren, a presidential candidate from the Democrats. In particular, he said:
He added that he was not sure whether Warren was open-minded or would she even be willing to be around someone with lots of money.
In 1995, Gates first became the world’s richest person with a net worth of $12.9 billion.
