A Foxconn executive confirms that Apple won’t be setting up facilities for flagship iPhone models manufacturing in India. The statement comes after speculation arose stating that the Cupertino giant will be shifting ít production of iPhones from China to India.
In the last few months, these speculations appeared as China became the epicenter for the Coronavirus outbreak. Many factories in the country that cater to the tech giant’s supply chain have had to shut down. And this has affected Apple enormously regarding its production timelines.

Despite all this, the company won’t be shifting to India for the production of its flagship iPhone models. In the past, Apple had considered this possibility.
The idea was to move away from China and go to countries like Vietnam and India for its production. However, the company’s executive doesn’t seem to be interested in this move as it could affect the sales of its products in China.
The company also cited the lack of proper infrastructure and skilled labor as reasons for not making this move. This has been confirmed in an interview by a Foxconn executive, saying the supply chain wasn’t in place and Indian workers weren’t ready for high-end models.

Selected iPhone models from Apple have already been manufactured in India, including the iPhone 6S, iPhone 7, and iPhone XR. If Apple does consider moving the production of its flagship iPhone models to India, this would help lower these smartphones’ prices as there would be no import taxes. Now that the company has no plan on doing this, Indians will still have to pay the exorbitant prices if they want to own a flagship iPhone model.
