Apple Has Hired Steve MacManus, A Tesla Engineering Vice President

Before quitting Tesla, MacManus worked as a VP of Engineering for car exteriors and interiors. And Apple has just assigned him as a senior director.

The latest source reveals that Apple Inc. has recently recruited Tesla engineering Vice President Steve MacManus. That means at least three engineering executives of the US automotive and energy company has become new members of the Cupertino-headquartered technology company since 2018.

Before quitting Tesla, MacManus worked as a VP of Engineering for car exteriors and interiors. And Apple has just assigned him as a senior director. The information is uncovered via his profile on LinkedIn.

MacManus has had a diverse range of work experience due to his contributions on many big companies such as Aston Martin, Bentley Motors, Jaguar Land Rover, and most recently, Tesla. He began to work for Tesla four years ago, in 2015.

The former VP’s skills in the interior design field are believed to suit Apple’s demand. When being asked for comments on July 22nd, Apple didn’t give any details.

In addition to MacManus, the iDevice manufacturer also hired two other engineers of Tesla. The first one is Michael Schwekutsch, a Vice President in charge of drive systems at Tesla. He joined Apple four months ago, on March 2019. The second one is Doug Field who worked as a chief vehicle engineer of Tesla. His new role at the Cupertino-based tech company has begun since August 2018.

For many years, Tesla and Apple have recruited each other’s engineers, sometimes leading to tension. Even in an interview with Handelsblatt, a famous newspaper in German, the Tesla CEO Elon Musk referred to Apple as the “Tesla Graveyard.” According to some industry investors and analysts, the two companies may have a partnership. Even some believe that the iDevice manufacturer is going to acquire the automobile manufacturer.
