On January 25, a Reddit user uploaded an image of an autonomous truck with a trailer behind. On the truck was a Prime logo of Amazon.
About a week after that, CNBC reported that the online retail giant is indeed using tractors to haul cargo from Embark, self-driving truck developer. The truck in the image might very well be the first one.
The article from CNBC claims that the publication has already known about Amazon utilizing Embark technology. However, whether CNBC got the information from Reddit or from additional insights.
Both companies declined to comment on the deal between them. But they also did not deny it. It is easy to spot the Embark logo on the tractor, and the Amazon logo featured prominently on the trailer.
The truck is the very same truck seen on Embark's Twitter account.
When being asked about this, Alex Rodrigues, the CEO of Embark said to CNBC:
As per Amazon, a spokesperson from the company said:
So, we have not known for sure if the Embark tractor pulling the Amazon trailer behind is the first one to be on the road of there are many more that have not been spotted. Amazon’s comment implied that self-driving shipping is set to have a major role in the future of the online retail giant.
