Amazon Pantry service is now available in 110 cities across India, the company announced last month.
For the last few months, Amazon India has been massively expanding the Amazon Pantry service to different cities over the country. By November 2018, this service had been widely present at 40 cities.
According to Saurabh Srivastava, Director - Category Management, Amazon India, Amazon Pantry is becoming so popular among consumers as it provides invincible “savings and convenience of doorstep delivery, month after month.”
He also stated that even in some smaller cities such as Kaithal (Haryana), Belgaum (Karnataka), and Ichalkaranji (Maharashtra), customers can now easily enjoy the benefits of Amazon Pantry.
Amazon Pantry offers approximately 5,000 everyday essentials merchandises from 500 brands covering several categories, including groceries, household supplies, packaged food, personal care, pet products, and baby care products. Customers can choose suitable delivery time slots for their order in some cities like Chennai, Bengaluru, Delhi, Kolkata, Hyderabad, and Pune.
In fact, Amazon India is aggressive betting on the Indian grocery segment, which also sees the presence of big players like BigBasket, Future Retail, and Reliance Retail. The company, in addition, has committed to invest up to 500 million dollars in the food retail sector.
Grocery takes up a large proportion of the Indian unorganized retail sector. With people gradually getting used to buying even bread or milk online, the online grocery market in India is expected to experience robust growth in the next few years.
Flipkart, owned by Walmart, has entered the e-grocery segment and is working to gain a larger portion of this market. Besides, hyperlocal companies such as BigBasket and Grofers have also gradually strengthened their positions in the market.
