Next year, Mozilla will make the Firefox crank faster, it will release new Firefox web browser versions every four weeks rather than every six weeks. Users of this browser will get new features sooner due to shorter waiting time from when developers create features to when they arrive.
Yan Or and Ritu Kothari, members of the Firefox team said:
Shorter waiting time for the next release means the company has less time for testing changes in the raw Nightly as well as more mature beta versions before they make it to the main release. However, the company feels fine with less testing time as it eliminated an entire version a couple of years ago. And Mozilla will monitor more closely to detect and resolve problems with its browser faster.
In the past, the software was developed with big releases to combine a lot of new features as well as major changes to its UI. Nevertheless, the spread of mobile networks and broadband has made software releases more often, bringing smaller changes. This means problems get fixed faster and users get changes continuously rather than jarring disconnects.
In addition, for users to catch and fix bugs more quickly, Mozilla will roll out beta versions more often than the current basis of twice a week.
