Uber is planning on the expansion of its door-to-door delivery to the field of grocery. On October 11, Uber made an announcement regarding its plan on taking over a large share of Cornershop, which is a leading grocery delivery service in Mexico and Chile. If the acquisition receives approval from relevant regulatory boards, consumers might be able to receive their groceries via Uber as early as 2020.
Dara Khosrowshahi said the company wants to be their customers’ everyday life operating system, whether it is booking a ride, ordering from favorite restaurants, or delivering groceries. She expressed that the company feels excited about its partnership with Cornershop and it is looking forward to offering millions of consumers grocery delivery.

Although Uber has some difficulties in capitalizing its ride-share business, Uber Eats, the company’s restaurant delivery service is one of the more successful ventures of the company. However, the service isn’t profitable either, as it has to face competitive price wars in the market of food delivery.
Capitalizing on the existing driver network of Uber, Uber Groceries or whatever its name, could perhaps help the company make more profits or could drown it in debts. Of course, Uber will have to face competitors for this field, including Walmart, AmazonFresh, Instacarts, and many more.
Oskar Hjertonsson, the CEO of Cornershop expressed the company’s excitement regarding its partnership with Uber, saying, Uber is its perfect partner.

No information has been revealed in terms of the time, location, and the method with which Uber and Cornershop are planning on bringing the service to their already existing consumer bases.
