Samsung has confirmed that a shortage of advanced memory chips needed for artificial intelligence is the main driver behind the elevated prices of its Galaxy S26 lineup.

During a press conference held earlier this week, the company detailed how surging demand for high-bandwidth memory (HBM) has strained supply chains. This shortage, primarily caused by the rapid expansion of AI technologies across industries, has directly impacted the manufacturing costs of the new smartphones.
"While we are excited to bring powerful AI experiences to our users with the Galaxy S26 series, the current memory constraints have unfortunately led to higher production expenses," explained Samsung executive Lee Jong-min.
The Galaxy S26 models are expected to boast enhanced AI functionalities, including real-time translation, intelligent camera enhancements, and personalized user assistance powered by on-device processing. These capabilities demand significant memory resources that are currently scarce.
Market analysts suggest that consumers should expect the entry-level Galaxy S26 to retail starting from 899 dollars, with the premium Ultra variant potentially exceeding 1,399 dollars. This represents an approximate 10 to 20 percent increase compared to the Galaxy S25 series.
Samsung has indicated that efforts are underway to secure additional supply and optimize designs, which could potentially lower prices in subsequent production batches or for future models.
