The autonomous car manufacturer Waymo, which belongs to Alphabet, the parent company of Google, is planning to expand its market to the world.
According to the report from TechCrunch, Waymo has been in partnership with Renault and Nissan to bring its self-driving cars to every street in Japan and France. Along with the collaboration, all of these automakers will develop advanced technologies for self-driving systems with each other.
Right now, Waymo is conducting a research program and developing a rideshare application to test its self-driving cars in Phoenix, Arizona. It is clear that the US company will have to work a lot on both of the programs in order that autonomous cars can actually appear on the streets in the United States, as well as in many other countries.
In terms of the collaboration with the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance, all of these companies consider it as the “first step”, which implies that they will have a long time to partner with each other in the tech development for self-driving cars in the upcoming times.
Accordingly, they are planning to research legal, regulatory, and commercial issues. The CEO of Waymo John Krafcik hopes that his company can catch this opportunity to leverage commercial services in both Japan and France, as well as in China and many other countries if possible.
