Following some tech firms in the country like Zomato, Swiggy, and ShopX, the Tata Group is seeking for a DGCA certification to have legitimate experiments for using UAVs and drones commercially.
According to some sources close to this plan, the Indian conglomerate giant has still kept on developing its drones, which will be used for specific purposes with the help of several branches within the group. There will be some partners with drone operations, including logistics company Delhivery and delivery startup Dunza, which have already expressed interest in the plan.
The Tata Group had tested crop spraying by using drones under erstwhile CTO Gopichand Katragadda. It was also looking for regulatory clarity to do that. However, a company's spokesperson declined to comment on this.
Apart from Tata Group, Zipline has also shared the other useful application of drone service. The Silicon Valley company is one of a few delivery firms using drones for commercial purposes. In Rwanda and Ghana, the company currently deploys about 500 deliveries daily with vaccines and blood packets to remote healthcare centers.
Apart from that, companies like Zomato and Sqiggy on the consumer side are expected to test out their deliveries by drones to make it faster when customers need food.
