Spotify Is Testing A New Feature That Helps Users Explore New Music From What Their Friends Like

A dummy landing page explains that this function of Spotify will help users find out about new songs and tracks from friends with the taste they trust

Spotify has come up with a feature called Tastebuds that can help users with new music discovering by what their friends like. The function is currently been tested by the company.

Jane Manchun Wong, an app researcher, was the first to find out about this new function. With reverse-engineering, Wong discovered Tastebuds prototype on Spotify’s web version.

So far, no further information on the feature has been revealed yet. However, there is a dummy landing page explaining that the function will help users find out about new songs and tracks from friends with the taste they can trust.

When they want to use Tastebuds, all users have to do is to tap on the pen icon and browse through all the songs people they follow listen to the most. If they find something they also like, they can add them to their own playlists. The function is under the navigation section near the Library and the Home tabs.

Spotify has never shown much interest in social sharing before. Only on the desktop version that users can access the Activity Feed function to see what their friends are listening to.

The app used to have a messaging function but it was axed to encourage users to share songs to their Instagram Stories and other social media platform.

Earlier this year, a feature called Friends Weekly was discovered. What it does is to provide users with a curated playlist made from what their friends like. Tastebuds could be a new take on this idea.

The feature is still under tests, meaning there is no guarantee that we will have the chance to see it soon.
