It is possible that Samsung is looking to develop a media device which can roll up like a scroll, according to a patent published by Patently Apple on Friday. If this design comes to real life, it may be released as a mobile TV, as suggested by the report.

The patent’s images demonstrate a cylindrical object which a flexible screen can pull from and retract into.

It is suggested by Patently Apple that the display division at Samsung creates designs such as a scrollable screen, then gives them to the company’s electronics team so that they can decide what the products will eventually look like, for example, a mobile TV, a tablet, or a smartphone.

In 2018, LG revealed an OLED TV which rolled into a compact tube, similar to a poster. According to the company, the TV will go on sale sometime in 2019.

Samsung’s patent for the device was reportedly filed dated back 2017.

The Korean giant did not respond immediately to a comment request.

In separate news, Samsung is holding its next Unpacked event in the next few days to unveil its upcoming flagship Galaxy Note 10. Until now, the phone's specifications and features are still hidden and what we know is mostly guesses and rumors. The Note 10 is expected to have a large screen of 6.66 inches with an aspect ratio of 19:9, without a headphone jack. Also, recent leaks suggest that the company may also unveil a tablet, a laptop, and a smartwatch at this event.
