CEO Ren Zhengfei Said The US Has Underestimated Huawei

The CEO said there wouldn’t be lots of differences to Huawei after the US allowed it to continue business with the US companies in the next 3 months.

The Huawei founder and CEO Ren Zhengfei doesn’t seemingly overestimate what the United States government have done with his company. More specifically, Mr. President Donald Trump has banned its tech companies including Qualcomm and Google to partner with the Chinese company.

According to the report from the Global Times newspaper, in an interview with Chinese media at Huawei’s Shenzhen headquarter, the CEO said there wouldn’t be lots of differences to Huawei after the US allowed it to continue collaboration with the US companies in the next 3 months. The reason behind it is that the company always prepares for contingency plans. According to Ren,

Reuters reported that the CEO also said the 5G rollout of the Chinese company wouldn’t be affected by these trade restrictions. In addition, no tech companies can come up with Huawei’s technology in the next 2-3 years. He added the US was “underestimating Huawei’s capabilities.”

The 74-year-old CEO seldom sits down for an interview with the media; however, in recent time, his frequency of appearance has been significantly increasing. The first reason is due to the growing tension between Huawei and the US, and the second one hails from the arrest of Meng Wanzhou, both his daughter and the CFO of Huawei. Besides, before starting up with Huawei, Ren worked as an engineer of the People’s Liberation Army. Therefore, it’s not difficult to understand why the US government are suspicious of the tech company from China.

On May 19, Google withdrew the Android license of Huawei to respond to the US President’s call. According to the reports, both Qualcomm and Intel haven’t allowed their workers to keep working with the company. In other words, Huawei won’t be able to sell its products that run the Play Store and Google applications. Also, producing smartphones with US-originated components has become infeasible. However, Huawei stated it managed to prepare for alternative hardware and build its own OS for this case.
