On July 24, Netflix introduced a completely new subscription plan to Indian users. This monthly plan that aims to mobile users is known as the cheapest one, at only Rs 199. There have been no other countries in the world but India to provide the Netflix plan for only mobiles as of now.
According to its announcement at the ‘Netflix House’ event held in New Delhi, the media-services provider revealed that its users in India tend to stream Netflix on mobile phones, instead of other devices. In addition, Indian users also download content more on this video streaming platform than those from other countries. In the upcoming time, the company plans to invest more projects that aim at smartphone users in India.
Users have the two following options if wanting to sign up for this new mobile subscription plan: first, download the Netflix app, and second, access its official website. The next step, they need to choose the monthly mobile plan at Rs 199. Adding account details is a vital requirement. After that, users can begin to experience a free one-month trial (just for new members).
The subscription plan for mobile users in India was under test at the beginning of 2019. While conducting the test, Netflix planned to offer a plan at Rs 250; however, it changed its mind and has chosen to introduce another subscription plan that is one-fifth times cheaper than the initial plan. The new plan provides similar features to other subscription plans of Netflix.
Users that sign up for the new plan can try it in the first month, and then they can decide to cancel or continue using it. This plan also supports both tablets and smartphones. However, users can only watch SD content on these devices. Netflix now offers two payment options including credit and debit cards.
At present, the number of its subscribers all over the world has reached 151 million. Besides, users can see this app on more than 1,700 device models. In terms of content, the company revealed it would keep investing in interactive titles such as Black Mirror: Bandersnatch.
