As the COVID-19 outbreak stays out of control in India, the cọuntry is still having to face additional time for lockdown. However, this puts YouTube India on a lucky run with two-digit growth in terms of the user base in this market, according to a report already published on Tuesday.
The report authored by Mindshare India and analytics firm Vidooly said the video-sharing platform has achieved a 20.5% surge with 300 billion views in the first quarter of 2020. This figure is respectively 11% and 13% higher than the Q1 and Q4 of 2019. It also turns out that users tend to watch videos via mobile devices, with 90% of the views on YouTube came from there.
Two companies also worked on studying the growth of other social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram. Their findings shed a light on how content consumption statistically saw a steep increase in the average time spent by users. The former number was just 1.5 hours per day while people are spending more than four hours on such platforms.
COVID-related content meanwhile observed a 98% surge when it comes to views and it’s 19% in terms of engagement.
Brands are trying to gather better engagement through different marketing plans on YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook. Also, the Indian government also puts more effort into raising and spreading awareness about the contagious pandemic towards the community.
Vidooly CEO Subrat Kar said that these metrics will play a vital role in spotting which channels perform the best.
