Intel, after a slew of leakage last week, has officially confirmed new performance specifications and other data figures for its new chips including 18-core i9 Extreme Edition, as well as X-Series chips of the 9th generation. So far we have known that the speeds can be boosted to 4.8 GHz with the support of core chips ranging from 10- to 18-, which clearly generates a minimum 7 percent performance bump for 3DS Max or Maya in conducting tasks, in comparison to other models from previous generations. In addition, the new chips will be beneficial for deep-learning experts as it will increase twice as much as throughout for AI inference.
As mentioned by Intel, the chips account for the largest performance enhancement for mainly researchers and creators. However, they can also be useful for gamers, though such performance gain is insignificant. There are some other promising features to be noted, such as fast ethernet, 72 lanes of PCle 3.0, WiFi 6. Even so, Intel has no preparation plans for PCle 4.0 like its rival AMD, though it is totally capable of upgrading to NVMe SSD speeds. In addition, the nomenclature of the chips, 10xxx, is indeed not 10th generation as we may assume. In fact, it actually implies the 9th generation.
As for the price, X-series indeed provides potential customers with various appealing and discounted prices. For example, the 10-core i9-10980XE will cost you almost $600. Meanwhile, the upper 18-core for the same i9 but in Extreme Edition will cost you $979. If you are interested in 18-core i9-7980XE, the chip that can boost the speeds up to 4.4 GHz, you may need to fulfill your budget with $2,000 in total.
So far you’ve been familiar with X-Series chips, yet Intel has also introduced the newest W-2200 Xeon CPUs. With these upgraded chips, the minimum specifications you can obtain is 10 percent for 3D rendered tasks, as well as 11 percent for 4K video editing, not to mention 2.2 times better of the performance of AI inference. Finally, it should be noted that Intel is reportedly reducing the price for its product line. Hopefully, users will be able to get some discounts in the near future.
