While the Indian election is coming near, Facebook is conducting something unprecedented: the company has required its representatives to come to users’ houses to check whether they wrote the political posts or not.
According to IANS, the news agency was in contact with one of these Facebook users in New Delhi. Before that, this user had been asked to verify the posted content by a representative from Facebook.
It came as a big surprise to the user because such the incident has never happened to anyone.
IANS wrote some emails to the tech company to look for an explanation but Facebook hasn’t made any comment on it yet.
Legal experts claim that there hasn’t been any incident like this in history. In addition, they are calling for users struggling against the famous platform.
It is likely that Facebook has tried to remove users, posts as well as deactivate groups and pages like it did before.
For anyone who has the intention to run her/his political ads on the social media platform, Facebook applies one of the two following methods to verify her/his residency, including physical verification and sending a code to the post.
In addition, the company is collaborating with other agencies to make physical verification of the advertisers’ locations.
Accordingly, Facebook will just approve of those having a residence of India. The process of physical verification lasts from 04 to 05 days. As estimated, there have been now about 30 crores Facebook users in India.
Pursuant to the Information Technology Act issued in 2000, Facebook is violating a rule when physically verifying its users.
