Google’s update for its translation tool may do a great help for users all around the world. According to the latest news, Google will develop a new function to Google Translate which will make the app remarkably similar to the real translators: Audio transcription, which is supposed to be installed in the Android system in the near future. Regarding the version for iOS, the company has not added any information that reveals such a thing to iPhone users.
The upcoming feature operates in the same way with Google’s precedented Recorder app, but it could do more in translating the transcriptions into any indicated languages. Therefore, it would be a true translator in helping users keep up with the information which a foreign speaker or a lecturer said in their scripts.
At the moment, the trial version of the feature has not been provided, but those who curious about it can imagine thanks to a video in the San Francisco press event. As shown in the video, the transcription was described to be as smooth as that from Google’s Recorder or Live Captions. The thing that makes Google Translate different from those is its capability of translating the transcriptions in small chunks of text instead of transcribing word by word.
The reason for the difference given by Google is the higher complexity of translating compared to transcribing. Human translators even need a little time to digest the information for the best translation they will give next; therefore, Translation tech is similar. It may take a few seconds for the app to ensure the quality of the translation of the audio it hears.
Although the next path of Google in developing its new feature will be absolutely full of hindrances, transcriptions may still open up a pool of possibilities for the future of the company. Continuing the success of Google’s Interpreter in translating short conversations, the upcoming transcription feature is expected to do even better in longer audio length, which used to seem inaccessible.
