The cloud migration startup Alooma was the subject of Google’s latest tech acquisition. The acquisition took place on Tuesday, and it tells us a lot about Google’s insistence on improving its cloud-based services and strategies.
Alooma specialized in creating tools for enterprises to automate the transfer of their data to the cloud. Along with a number of other services for cloud migration and data cleansing.
Google did not speak about the financial aspect of the deal.
The Alooma Purchase
Alooma became Cloud Spanner's integration partner, Google’s global database service, in 2017. It has also had histories with Google from their partnership to improving Google Ads and Analytics.
The purpose of the purchase was rather simple. Google wished to use the expertise and the technologies of Alooma to build for itself a simplified data migration feature. It will offer customers more flexibility in moving their data to the cloud. Obviously, since this is an edge that not a lot of other cloud services offer, customers would prefer using Google’s products. These products can be anything, from security to AI, and machine learning.
There is no doubt great financial prospect for Google as a result of this acquisition.
Moving On
Alooma is a company based in Israel. This will strengthen the company’s influence and its foothold in the Middle East. Especially in light of Google’s acquisition of Velostrata in the Summer of 2018, which was also an Israeli’s tech firm. To keep Alooma’s team closest to their roots, Google’s plan was for Alooma to join Google’s Tel Aviv and Sunnyvale campuses.
Alooma’s past services will still be made available to Google’s competitors despite the purchase. However, some limitations had been put in place.
