Google Maps now allows its users to play a new version of the classic Snake game right on their devices, available for both mobiles and PCs. It was released on April Fools Day, and is totally free and needs no download at all. Beforehand, this game has been recreated multiple times, even with an AR adaptation.
Since you don't need to download the game at all, accessing it is really simple. If you are using an iOS or Android device, simply tap on the Menu button in the top left of the Google Maps app, then scroll down and choose Play Snake. In case you want to play it on PC, you only need to head to this link.
The game will then be loaded and you will have to choose one of the 6 designated "maps" to play in. There are 6 famous cities including Cairo, Sao Paolo, London, Sydney, San Francisco, Tokyo, and a special map called World in which you can play everywhere.
Google Maps' Snake is different from the older versions since you won't control a real snake, but instead drive a public mean of transport, which is recreated based on the cities' iconic transportation. The train or bus will move forward constantly to pick up passengers, food items, or buildings that worth scores. Of course, the public transports will grow longer as you pick up more and more, making the game more challenging while you need to avoid hitting yourself or the border of the map.
It's fun to play. However, the game won't last forever on the platform. A spokesperson from Google confirmed with CNET that it will probably last for a week, so you should check it out while still can.
Google has done these types of game-related content on April Fools Day before. Back in 2015, it added a Pacman game.
