Fortnite Will Be Playable On Skinny Laptops, Thanks To This New Chip From Intel

Lightweight and thin laptops may have a serious boost in performance this year with Intel’s new 10th-generation Ice Lake Core processors

Lightweight and thin laptops may have a serious boost in performance this year. Intel’s new 10th-generation Ice Lake Core processors will give more speed to WiFi connectivity, gaming performance, and AI processing. The new chips will be in Core i3, i5, and i7 and will bring with it two to four cores.

As with other chips made by Intel, the 10th-gen Ice Lake Core Processor will come in two configurations, the Y-Series, and the U-Series. The former one eats up less energy but offers lower processing power while the former is the exact opposite.

According to Intel, the new Ice Lake chip will be able to be 2.5 times faster in running AI instructions than the previous generation and up to 8 times in comparison with other chips. That much speed translates to better real-time image recognition, on-device machine learning, and voice assistants.

Gamers can benefit from the Iris Plus Graphics as it will enable them to play games like Dirt Rally 2 and Fortnite at 1080p resolution twice as fast frame rates. These are also two game titles that Intel claimed that users could enjoy on thin laptops without any discrete in graphics.

With this Ice Lake chips, users will have 4K video at 60 frames per second in HDR with a billion colors. At least that was what the company said.

The chip will also come equipped with WiFi 6 support, which is believed to be three times faster than WiFi 5. For wired connectivity, support for four Thunderbolt 3 ports is built in the device. The speed of data transfer with Thunderbolt 3 is four times faster than USB 3.1.

All of the upgrades that come with the Ice Lake Core processor are expected to restore users’ interest in thin laptops, as well as give devices like Dell XPS 13 and Surface Laptop more power. Intel said that with this chip, users would be able to play graphics-intensive titles on thin laptops, but we may have to wait and see how it performs when the chip is launched later this year.
