On Friday, Facebook said it agreed to by Giphy, the popular GIF-making website. The social giant said that Giphy will be part of its Instagram team. Does this mean we are going to have a gif-making feature on Instagram?

The social giant bought Giphy

In a blog post, Facebook VP of product Vishal Shah wrote:

"By bringing Instagram and GIPHY together, we can make it easier for people to find the perfect GIFs and stickers in Stories and Direct."

"GIPHY will continue to operate its library (including its global content collection), and we’re looking forward to investing further in its technology and relationships with content and API partners. People will still be able to upload GIFs; developers and API partners will continue to have the same access to GIPHY’s APIs; and GIPHY’s creative community will still be able to create great content."

The deal is said to be worth $400 million (over Rs 3,000 crore)

As reported by Axios, the deal is worth over Rs 3,000 crore. Facebook and Giphy reportedly began talking about a partnership before the outbreak of COVID-19.

Giphy said that the platform will still be open to the wider ecosystem, reassuring that emojis, stickers, GIFs, as well as other content users have created will remain on its platform.

According to Facebook’s statement, the GIF library of Giphy will be integrated into Instagram along with Facebook’s other apps. But it would be really cool to have an integrated GIF-making tool on the platforms, too. Don’t you think so?
