The supplier of telecoms equipment Ericsson announced that it was having the idea to build the first factory that is fully-automated in the US. This smart factory will serve as the manufacturer of radios that are required for 5G technology to be deployed. The facility will be ready to operate in the first half of the following year.
The final location of the factory will be announced after some discussions between Ericsson and the local authorities of the US. The company is now owning a center for research and development in Texas.
Ericsson’s Head of Networks and Executive Vice President – Fredrik Jejdling stated that:
The company said that it was going to employ about 100 workers for the facility. This factory is believed to have highly automated operations and a modular, not to mention flexible production setup, all of which enable rapid rollout and ramp up. Once the factory is established, it is of no doubt that the production of 5G radios will be effectively carried out.
After the U.S and South Korea, Singapore is the next in line to have a plan for 5G. The country is now conducting tests to prepare for a roll out next year. In the early trials, the technology is used in the maritime industry, drones, and the manufacturing sector.
