There have been emails threatening that bombs are planted in government, hospitals, schools, and businesses buildings and the threatener demands an amount of 20,000 U.S. dollars in Bitcoin (BTC) for prevention of detonation.
A scam mail-format has been targeting multiple schools, businesses, government offices and hospitals in the U.S. for the purpose of blackmailing BTC by threatening with the act of bombing.
An FBI spokesman stated that the FBI has been aware of these recent threats of bombings which were made across the U.S., and FBI’s law enforcer-partners will be dispatched to provide assistance. For the time being, the public was advised to remain alert, and if anything suspicious happens, they are required to report immediately to the authorities.
However, the threats have been confirmed to be hoaxes by law enforcement agents. Investigators had little to no success trying to connect any transactions to the culprit’s cryptocurrency wallet address given in the email above. Moreover, no explosives are found in the building where the threats were made.
Nevertheless, as mentioned above about the warning of the FBI, it is crucial to maintaining a vigilant attitude. And citizens need to immediately report any suspicious emails or activities to the authorities.
Another report shows that there were threats issued to Columbine High School the previous week, which resulted in the school closing. The threat has not been confirmed to be related to the recent bomb threats. However, it was later confirmed that the threat was false.
With a quick search with the keyword of “bomb threat” on Google can give you the list of cities across the country that are experiencing the same events. The authorities are getting deeper into these bomb threats, specifically in Ohio, Maryland, Illinois, California, and Virginia.
As always, we recommend whoever is receiving these type of emails to be alert until there have been confirmations of them which state otherwise. Because it is unknown whether it is true or not. Stay alert and be safe.
