Apple Beats Samsung To Be The World's Largest Smartphone Vendor

According to Strategy Analytics, Apple has regained its position as the top smartphone vendor with 70.7 million units shipped in the last quarter of 2019

According to Strategy Analytics, Apple has regained its position as the top smartphone vendor with 70.7 million units shipped in the last quarter of 2019, beating Samsung’s 68.8 million devices.

The report also reveals that Apple is now holding 19% of the world’s smartphone market. Samsung is right behind with 18%. Huawei ranks at the third spot with 15%. Two other Chinese manufacturers Xiaomi and Oppo hold 9% and 8% each.

This success appears to come down to the shipment of the iPhone 11 lineup with enhanced cameras and performance. While there is no significant design change with the iPhone 11 models. The improved performance has made them a hot topic over the last few months.

Apple made public that the last quarter of last year had seen it made record earnings of $22.2 billion in profit. Samsung did not have a good year as its overall profit saw a decline of 38%. There is an increase in the smartphone sector but that was not enough to offset for its other businesses.

In a press release, Samsung said that the reason here was the fall in the price of memory chips and the flaw of display panels. However, the loss was eased by the growing sales of high-end smartphones and the high demand for servers’ memory.

However, success in the last quarter does not show the entire picture. In 2019, Samsung’s overall shipment of smartphones is 295 million, way more than the figure of 193 million of Apple.

Other factors that may lead to Apple’s high number of shipments are the fact that its iPhone 11 lineup was released in the last quarter of last year. Another is the holiday season, high time for shopping.
