The Indian food-delivery market is currently being dominated by Swiggy and Zomato, but that doesn’t seem to discourage Amazon from rolling out its food delivery service.
Money Control reported that the e-commerce giant is planning on launching its food delivery service in India this Diwali and will become a competitor of Zomato and Swiggy. The report also states that the initial $500 million has been prepared by the e-commerce giant in order to prepare for this war.
It won’t be an easy task for Amazon to compete against Zomato and Swiggy. But Amazon is said to have a few tricks for this. The report mentions how Amazon’s fee for restaurants will only be one-fourth of its competitors’. Moreover, Prime customers will also get free deliveries. This is going to be an added advantage for those who are using Amazon Prime. Besides access to free one-day product delivery, Prime Music, and Prime Video, they can now experience free food delivery service.

Amazon starts taking interest in the food-delivery industry of India probably because of the industry’s interesting statistics. According to Money Control’s report, the industry is set to reach $17 billion by 2023 and the annual growth rate will be 16%.
That’s probably why Amazon wants a piece of the market. The fact that the company is one of the country’s top e-commerce websites and the kinds of resources it has, acquiring customers and keeping them might not be of a big deal.
Of course, there is no certain prediction about how the food delivery service of Amazon going to turn out, but this news should be a warning sign for both Zomato and Swiggy. For consumers, more choices mean more great things. So, let’s just wait and see what the e-commerce giant has prepared for its customers.
