A tough phone case can help you protect your beloved smartphone from drops. However, some cases are tougher than others, even stronger than their advertisements. A lot of cases can resist drops from as high as 6 meters onto a hard surface or harsh impacts. But what about an extreme impact like an explosion? With the help of The Explosion Show, CNET conducted a test to find out if iPhone 11 cases can survive explosions.
In this test, three iPhone 11 cases were chosen from three different price points, including the Otterboc Defender (Rs 4,350), the Spigen Tough Armor (Rs 3,209), and the Pelican Rogue (Rs 1,783). The testers put a new iPhone 11 in each case for the test. For the record, all three cases were not claimed to resist explosions.
The first round: 4.5 meters from the blast
For round 1, the cases were all put 4.5 away from the explosion, in the same orientation, with their backs facing the blast. After the explosion, the testers assessed the phones for damages.
Happily, all of the cases remained unharmed and the phones were perfectly protected.
The second round: 3 meters from the blast
For round 2, the testers use new cases instead of the one in the first round. The cases were put in the same orientation too, 3 meters away from the explosion. The result was good, no damage was seen in all of the three cases.
The third round: 0.9 meters from the blast
In the final round, the cases were also put in the same orientation, 0.9 meters away from the explosion. To the tester’s astonishment, the cases looked pretty intact though there were a few cracks this time.
The iPhone 11 in the Otterbox Defender and the Spigen Tough Armor had a crack in its camera module and there was a big crack on the back of the phones. The biggest surprise, however, is that the cheapest case, Pelican Rogue, appeared to protect the iPhone 11 the best with no cracks on the back.
But all in all, the three smartphones functioned perfectly after three explosions, which is great news regardless of which case you use.
