Two archivists are uploading hundreds of Windows Desktop themes that were from the 1990s to the Internet Archive, filling the website with old, nostalgic fan art that you can download to set as the desktop wallpaper on your device.
The file containing the desktop wallpapers, dubbed README, comes with little artist statements, such as “I decided to make this theme after trying several that I found on the internet that I was just not completely happy with,” written in 1996 Simpsons theme. The wallpapers include different statements from a fan of pro wrestling, Star trek: The Next Generation, the Fire Fighter of NYC, and a lot more.
If you know these images or are familiar with them, you have probably grown old.
In the list below, there is a bunch of old pictures that will give you the vibe of the old time, when the computer screen was not as rectangular as today and the internet wasn't as common. It took longer to load a web page and the interface looked so basic and solid like bricks on the screen. We are grateful for the current fast internet connection and beautiful interface that keeps getting better, but let's take a look of the old stuff.
