Oppo’s A-series lineup has just welcomed the overhauled versions of Oppo A5 and Oppo A9 – Oppo A5 2020 and Oppo A9 2020. The Oppo A5 2020 is more affordable than the Oppo A9 2020 as it’s priced at Rs. 12,490 while the base variant of Oppo A9 2020 that offers 4GB RAM will set you back around Rs. 16,990, and it’s Rs. 19,990 for the 8GB RAM variant.
The Oppo A9 2020 is available in two color options – Space Purple and Marine Green.
Display and design
The Oppo A9 2020 owns a lightweight plastic body that enables users to use the device with a single hand. The glossy plastic surface at the back is reflective is quite reflective and the color gradually gets darker towards the center part. The slippery design makes Oppo A9 2020 a little bit vulnerable to accidental falls. Another disadvantage is that fingerprint marks can easily be inked on the back cover because it’s not smudge-free at all.
Speaking of the display, the handset is equipped with a 6.5-inch HD+ screen and achieves an 89% screen-to-body ratio. It’s well-protected with a Gorilla Glass 3+ layer. A waterdrop notch at the front is where you can find a 16MP selfie camera. Oppo A9 2020 gets a round-edge design with bezels around the display, and the bottom chin is comparatively thicker.
The power button is located on the right edge of the device, while you can find volume rockers and a SIM card slot tray on the left. Not only does the SIM tray provide the space for a SIM card but it also has a microSD card slot to expand up to 256GB of internal storage.
Meanwhile, a combination of microphone, a 3.5mm headphone jack, a USB Type-C charging port, and a speaker grille is placed at the bottom of the handset.
In general, Oppo A9 2020 is a favorable choice for those who love playing games or streaming videos thanks to the large display, which produces satisfactory colors and good levels of brightness, even when in daylight. There’re three color temperature adjustments for the display, including warmer, cooler, and a default option.
Performance
Under the hood, the handset features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 octa-core chipset coupled with Adreno 610 GPU. As mentioned above, users can get 4GB or 8GB RAM based on their needs, but both these RAM variants come packed with 128GB of internal storage and this number can be upgraded to 256GB via a microSD card slot. In some AnTuTu benchmark tests, Oppo A9 2020 scored about 77509.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 chipset inside the device is capable of handling heavy apps and games like Asphalt 9 or PUBG. The overall gaming experience also comes from a bunch of gaming-centric features respectively called Game Boost 2.0, Touch Boost, and Frame Boost. During multitasking, the device still works properly and effectively.
Oppo A9 2020 comes preinstalled with the ColorOS 6.1, which is also based on Android 9 Pie OS. For the Indian market, the handset offers some third-party apps by default, such as WPS Office, UC Browser, Paytm, Newspoint, and more – but they can be uninstalled if users wish to do so.
It’s very easy to switch between apps. As reported, Oppo A9 2020 was found with no heating issues in daily usage, but the phone will be heated up after hours of watching videos. Of course, users can avoid this problem without any hassle.
As for safety and unlock methods, Oppo A9 2020 allows users to register different ways, including PIN code, pattern, fingerprint, and face data. Talking about how long these biometrics methods do take for the unlocking session, the fingerprint option is not only faster but also more efficient than the face-unlock feature, especially in low-light conditions.
Battery
Oppo A9 2020 is capable of delivering 20 hours of battery life after a single charge thanks to a big 5,000mAh battery. This is true if you don’t rely on the device all the time or run heavy apps and games continuously.
Oppo A9 2020 is bundled with an 18W charger and the device will be powered up through a USB Type-C port. Despite that the USB Type-C charger appears to be a plus point, it may take users more than three hours to fully charge the device. The charging time also see ups and downs if you’re the one who prefers unplugging the charger when seeing an acceptable level of the battery, instead of having a full charge.
Camera
Along with Realme, Oppo is another name in the smartphone industry to equip smartphones in such an affordable price category with a quad-camera setup. The camera module comprises of a 48MP main snapper, an 8MP f/2.25 wide-angle lens, a 2MP f/2.4 monochrome lens, and finally a 2MP f/2.4 depth sensor.
Additionally, there’re a series of camera modes to take advantage of, including slow motion, time-lapse photography, night scene mode, portrait mode, panorama mode, and professional mode. For portrait mode, the bokeh effect is quite satisfactory. Although some will find traces of noises in the photos they’ve taken on Oppo A9 2020, images turn out to be very clear and sharp. For low light photography, the handset supports a separate night mode but the photos captured at night still lack detail, not to mention tiny grains once they’re zoomed out to inspect the quality.
