Huawei Watch GT 2e Summary

The Watch GT series of Huawei is known to have great design, solid fitness tracking, and impressive battery life. Unfortunately, their software needs improvements while their prices are expensive.

With the Watch GT 2e, some of the features found on the Watch GT 2 have been gotten rid of. Huawei has also lowered the price tag, focusing more on the battery and fitness tracking features.

The Watch GT 2e still has many hardware features including an AMOLED display, heart rate monitoring, and fitness tracking.

Huawei Watch GT 2e Price

The price of the Huawei Watch GT 2e is around $200. In the UAE, the device is available in-store and online on May 14 with a price tag of AED 599. During the pre-ordering period, consumers can grab a pair of free Huawei FreeBuds Lite.

While the Watch GT 2 has two dial sizes, the GT 2e only has one 46mm size. In terms of straps, you can choose between Graphite Black, Minty Green, or Lava Red.

Huawei Watch GT 2e Design & Display

The design of the Watch GT 2e moves away from the Watch GT 2’s professional classic look. It has more of a modern look, thus is suitable for a younger generation. How the strap and the watch body meet is probably the biggest change. Similar to the Apple Watch, the strap of the GT 2e is seamlessly integrated into the watch’s top and bottom. It fits around the wrist comfily. The fluoro rubber straps wear more snugly for accurate data collection and monitoring. A pin mechanism allowing easy strap changing.

Instead of the round crowns like those on the Watch GT 2, the Watch GT 2e has two flat buttons. The edges of these buttons are tapered for convenience as well as preventing mistouches during exercise.

Huawei combined stainless steel and sturdy plastic to make the body of the watch. The top is cladded in glass. For a seamless look, the parts toward the edges are smoothed off. You will find small markings around the rim. And compared to the ones on the Watch GT 2, the markings on the GT 2e look more pleasing and modern.

In terms of display, the watch is equipped with a 1.39-inch AMOLED screen with a resolution of 454 x 454. The display is bright enough so that you won’t have any trouble reading data even under direct sunlight. An always-on display option is available. However, it will drain the battery of the watch.

Huawei Watch GT 2e Fitness

The main highlight of the Watch GT 2e is a collection of new workout modes to track basically anything, from running, cycling, swimming to parkour, skateboarding, belly dancing, and ballet.

The watch also has a 5ATM water resistance rating. This means you take the watch for a trip underwater for up to 50 meters. You can’t wear the watch while scuba diving but you can surely wear it while participating in shallow water activities such as swimming.

Once you move, the watch will automatically detect the type of workout and log data. Once you are done with your exercise, you will receive a detailed report.

Besides exercise, the device also tracks steps you take during the day, heart rate, stress levels, and sleep quality if you wear the watch when sleeping.

An Sp)2 sensor will measure your blood oxygen level. But do you really need it? Not really to be honest.

Huawei Watch GT 2e Software

Similar to the Watch GT 2, the Watch GT 2e has Huawei’s home-grown Kirin A1 chip. However, it comes with 4GB of RAM instead of 2GB. For software, it uses Huawei’s LiteOS. The UI is basic and easy to use.

Swiping left or right will give you basic information like calories burned, steps taken, stress level, average heart rate, and weather. You can choose what you want to be displayed as well. From the home screen, swiping up will show you your notifications while swiping down will take you to quick settings and battery statistics.

On the edge is a top button that you can use to access the menu with all the watch’s features. To go back, you just have to push the same button. By default, the bottom button will show your favorite workout list. But it can also be used to set up a shortcut.

Unlike the GT 2, the GT 2e doesn’t have a built-in microphone or speaker. 4G/LTE isn’t supported either. This means you have to pair it with your smartphone.

Smartwatch features are minimum. You will still receive notifications from apps on your smartphone. However, you can’t interact with them. Although the watch comes with GPS, there aren’t any maps app. NFC isn’t supported either, meaning you can’t make payments with the watch.

The watch face is customizable. You can select the ones from the watch or those from your photo album.

The smartwatch doesn’t support third-party apps. This means you won’t be able to play Spotify’s offline playlists. But you can still store music on the watch. 2GB of space is available. You can store around 500 songs. You can pair the watch with any Bluetooth earphones.

Huawei Watch GT 2e Battery Life

Like the Watch GT 2, the Watch GT 2e comes with a 455mAh battery. According to Huawei, the smartwatch can last two weeks with one single charge. But it all depends on how much you use the device. With continuous GPS tracking, music playback, and heart-rate monitoring, it will probably last five to eight days.

The time is reduced to five to six days with heavy fitness tracking, GPS enabled, and continuous heart rate monitoring.

When the battery of the device is drained, you can use Huawei’s compact charging cradle to charge the watch. It will take less than an hour and a half to fill the battery.
