Honor MagicWatch 2 Summary

The Honor Magic Watch 2 is the Honor Watch Magic’s successor. It is a smartwatch that focuses on fitness elements. It has some new exercise features with some design elements of the Huawei Watch GT 2.

Honor Magic Watch 2 Release Date & Price

The price of the Honor Magic Watch 2 for the larger 46mm variant is around $210. For a smartwatch at that size, it is pretty affordable. For the smaller 42mm version, the price is set at around $155.

The Apple Watch 5, launched three months before the Honor Magic Watch 2 cost $399.

The larger Magic Watch 2 went on sale on December 20, 2019, while the smaller one was released a few months later, in July 2020.

Honor Magic Watch 2 Design

The Honor Magic Watch 2 comes with the main body and removable straps. The combo is pretty standard for any smartwatch. There are two size options, 42mm and 46mm.

There are a few size-related perks with the 46mm version. You have a bigger display with a higher resolution. The battery life is said to be twice as long as the one of the original model. You also have a built-in microphone and speaker, long-range Bluetooth connection to connect the device with your phone.

The options for the straps include black fluoroelastomer, rose gold Milanese Loop, and brown leather.

As for the colors of the body, the 46mm version comes in black or light brown while the 42mm model is available in black or gold.

The dimensions of the 42mm are 41.8 x 41.8 x 9.3mm while the 46mm version measures 45.9 x 45.9 x 10.7mm. The most pronounced difference between the two versions is their weight. The 42mm is significantly lighter at 29g while the 46mm is 41g. Besides the fact that the 46mm variant is physically larger, it also has a bigger battery and microphone and speaker included.

The Honor Magic Watch 2, overall, is a pretty sleek device, sleeker than the original watch since the case doesn’t go above the screen. This gives the smartwatch a more streamlined feel. The bezel is minimal too so that the screen covers more of the watch face.

On the back of the watch are the heart rate sensor and the charging pins. The back is made of hard plastic and feels pretty comfortable when wearing.

There are two crowns, one to bring up lifestyle features while one is for the workout menu.

Generally, the watch feels pretty comfortable to wear. However, for the 46mm version, it might feel too big on smaller wrists. There are plenty of holes on the strap for adjustment.

If you have read our review of the Huawei Watch GT 2, this probably sounds familiar. As a matter of fact, the two devices are almost indistinguishable but with only minor differences.

There is one problem with the watch body. It seems to become dirty pretty quickly. You will find fust built up around the body, under the buckle, and in the lugs.

Honor Magic Watch 2 Display

The 42mm version has a 1.2-inch display while the 46mm has a 1.39-inch screen. Both are AMOLED displays so they display colors very well. According to Honor, users can set the watch wallpaper using their own photos through the Huawei Health app. An always-on display option is also available.

Honor Magic Watch 2 Fitness

As expected, since this is a fitness-centric smartwatch, the Honor Magic Watch 2 has a wide range of fitness modes, from running to triathlon. Some are more complex than others. The smartwatch is able to monitor almost anything, from time, heart rate, and calories to even open-water swimming.

This means the Honor Watch 2 is waterproof. You can take the watch underwater up to 50m. There are different modes for running, 13 running courses in total. You will have an audio companion when using these courses, but only on the 46mm version.

When you start running, a range of stats will appear, from basic things like time, distance, and heart rate to more complex ones like height climbed, and cadence. For the “free” run mode, you will have a pace assistance feature to help you stick to a pre-set pace.

Another feature is post-run feedback. After you finish your run, the smartwatch will let you know how much you have improved.

In terms of accuracy, the stats are reasonably reliable. Although the GPS takes a while to connect, it is still accurate enough. The distance accuracy seems a bit off though. For indoor runs, the stats are correct, but not with outdoor runs.

Honor Magic Watch 2 Software

The Honor Magic Watch 2 doesn’t use Wear OS, Watch OS, or any other major operating systems. Instead, Huawei and Honor wearables use Huawei’s own software.

The smartwatch OS of Huawei is excellent for fitness and running. However, it isn’t good for features that are non-fitness. For everyday use, you only have a few apps to choose from, like notifications, timers, alarms, and sleep tracking.

Notifications are a bit buggy. Some don’t come right after you receive them from your smartphone. And some come multiple times. Music handling isn’t the best either. But overall, the interface is pretty easy to use.

Honor Magic Watch 2 Battery Life

One of the Honor Magic Watch 2’s strongest aspects is its battery life. According to Honor, on one full charge, the smartwatch can last approximately two weeks. However, it also depends on how you use the device. With intensive use, the smartwatch can only last one week.
