Xiaomi is going to release a new handset that will feature a 48MP sensor. President of Xiaomi, Lin Bin, has just posted an image on his Weibo page confirming the information. Furthermore, at the Qualcomm 4G/5G summit earlier in the year, head of Xiaomi India, Muni Kumar Jain, had already said that the Chinese phone maker would release a new handset with a Snapdragon 675 SoC in the coming year, and the SoC will support up to 48MP sensor. It’s likely that both Lin Bin and Jain are mentioning the same handset, and a smartphone with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 SoC and a 48MP rear sensor is introduced soon.
There will soon be a Xiaomi smartphone with a 48MP sensor
Lin Bin shared a photo on his Weibo page, showing just a part of the upcoming handset. People can clearly see the ‘48MP camera’ in the picture which confirms that its rear camera will feature a 48MP sensor. He also says on his post that he has already been testing the handset for a couple of weeks now, and it will most likely launch in January. Though he still doesn’t mention about the name of this handset, there should be more leaks releasing ahead of its launch soon.
Xiaomi's President, Lin Bin, said that the phone will be released in January next year
Earlier in the year, Sony released its IMX586 sensor with effect 48 MPs with 0.8 μm pixels. The samples were shipped to OEMs from September, so it’s most likely that the Chinese phone maker Xiaomi might be using this sensor in its upcoming handset.
Moreover, this upcoming Xiaomi handset is expected to feature a Snapdragon 675 SoC that was released in October. The SoC is made from the 11nm LPP process technology and coupled with the newest generation Kryo 460 CPU, an Adreno 612 GPU and enhanced AI Engine. The new SoC also comes with Qualcomm Spectra™ 250L ISP for 14-bit image signal processing and up to 48MP snapshot support, single 25MP at 30 frames per second with ZSL (Zero Shutter Lag) and dual 16MP cameras at 30 frames per second and also ZSL.
And if Lin Bin post is accurate about the handset launching in January, there should be more details of this Xiaomi device pretty soon.
