Vivo has just recently announced the Vivo V15 Pro in the Indian market, which comes with some features of the Vivo recent flagship, Vivo NEX. Two highlighted features are in-display fingerprint sensor and pop-up selfie camera. However, being priced at Rs. 28,990 might be a barrier for many consumers. And because of that, the Chinese company has now released a tone-down version of the Vivo V15 Pro, the Vivo V15, that still comes with most of the features that the Vivo V15 Pro offers. So, can this Vivo V15 still be a viable option like its sibling Vivo V15 Pro? We had the chance to spend some time with the handset, and here are our initial impressions.

As a mid-range offering, the Vivo V15 has many highlights in the design as well as a focus on cameras and is expected to appeal to young people who like to take selfies.
The Vivo V15 uses a 6.53-inch Super AMOLED screen that delivers a sharp, beautiful and colorful display. This full-screen display has a Full HD + resolution and a screen aspect ratio of up to 90.95%. While its display is undoubtedly not as good as the Vivo V15 Pro, the colors are punchy, and the view angles are also pretty impressive. You won’t find any difficulty in using the handset in direct sunlight with its high brightness. The company also goes for some cool features such as color temperature adjustment, eye protection and you can even control the display ratio of third-party apps.
A closer look at the top edge will have a range of voice speakers and a pop-up selfie camera up to 32MP.
The bottom edge, as usual, is a "chin" slightly protruding. This is also a common drawback that many manufacturers have yet overcome on their devices.

The Vivo V15 comes in a total of three color options, including Glamour Red, Royal Blue, and Black in India.

I personally appreciate the Royal Blue design which is more prominent and more recognizable. While with the Glamour Red, the red area is turned upside down, so when we use the phone, we tend to hold the hand below and obscure this most beautiful color.

At the top is where the 32MP selfie camera is located.

On the bottom, we will see the speakerphone, micro USB charging port, and 3.5mm headphone port. Personally, going for a micro-USB port on a mid-range phone in 2019 is quite a bummer. In addition, the device also supports the Dual Engine fast charging technology that comes with the cables and chargers that have been applied on Vivo V11.

On the left will be where the volume rockers and power button are located.

The right side has a slot for the SIM tray to support simultaneous 2 SIM cards and a micro SD memory card. Below is a physical key used to launch Google Assistant, Google Search, and Image Recogniser (identify what is on the phone’s display). I personally kind of dislike the fact that while this button can still be mapped, the Vivo software doesn’t allow you to assign a third-party app or task to this button.
A fingerprint sensor appeared on the Vivo V15's back. This is also the only difference with the Vivo V15 Pro using an in-display fingerprint sensor.

Instead of a 48MP camera at the back panel, the more affordable model comes with a 12MP main sensor with an aperture of f/1.78, paired with a secondary 8MP ultra-wide shooter with an f/2.2 aperture, and a 5MP third depth sensor with an f/2.4 aperture. Camera features on the Vivo V15 include AR Stickers, Pro mode, AI Beauty, Live Filters, AI Bokeh, HDR, and more.
In terms of hardware, the Vivo V15 uses MediaTek Helio P70 chip, 6 GB RAM, 128 GB internal memory and 4000 mAh battery capacity. With these specifications, we could play Coalition, PUBG Mobile and a few other high-end games with hardly any issue.
About software, Android 9 operating system is customized on its latest Funtouch OS 9 platform.
