Gionee A1: A Great Option For Beginners With Impressive Battery
Harin - Oct 21, 2020
The Gionee A1 has well enough design, build, display, camera, and battery. However, for aggressive users, we wouldn’t recommend it.

Gionee A1 is a great option for consumers who can’t buy online and look for phones under Rs 20,000. However, at this price, there are many better selfie-centric phones.
Among the offline smartphone makers, for several years, Gionee is known to be one of the most consistent brands. The Gionee A1 was revealed during the MWC 2017, alongside the Gionee A1 Plus. In less than a month, the company launched the A1 in India at a price of Rs 19,000. The smartphone focuses on battery and selfies.
The target of the smartphone is the offline market. Its competitors include Oppo F1 and Vivo V5.
Gionee A1 Design
In terms of design, the smartphone doesn’t have anything striking but it still looks and feels good in the hand. The matte black variant looks much better compared to other color variants. The finish doesn’t catch fingerprints when you use it daily.

The device is a bit bulkier and bigger because of what it carries inside. However, for those with tiny hands, one-handed accessibility will be inconvenient.
On the edges are slight curves. With this design, it feels better to hold in hands as the phone fits despite its slightly slippery texture. On the right side are the volume and power buttons. At the bottom are two speaker grills. One is for the loudspeaker and one is for the mic.

The overall design of the smartphone can be rated positively. Considering you have a bigger battery, the size and the bulk can be forgiven.
Gionee A1 Display
Gionee A1 comes with a 5.5-inch full HD AMOLED display, one of the device’s strengths. Combined with a 1080p resolution, the display has strong contrast, punchy colours, delivering a pleasant experience.

The UI has three different color profiles, warm, neutral, and cool. This can be changed in the display settings.
Gionee A1 Camera
As a selfie-centric smartphone, the Gionee A1 is expected to have a great camera setup, especially the front one. On the back, it has a 13MP rear camera. On the front, it has a 16MP selfie camera. However, it isn’t as good as it should be.

In well-lit conditions, it can capture great detail. However, the optimization is a bit inconsistent. In low light conditions, the flash performs well. But there will be a loss in detail.
The 13MP rear camera, surprisingly, works much better than it has been expected with impressive results. The daylight shots have decent details. Lowlight shots still look good as well. And with the AMOLED display, the pictures look even more striking.

Gionee A1 Battery & Connectivity
In terms of battery life, the battery of the Gionee A1 is excellent. It comes with a 4010mAh battery. With basic to moderate usage, the smartphone can easily last over 42 hours. With fast charging, the hefty battery can be charged in under two hours.

The loudspeaker produces a loud and crisp sound. It can be heard in a big room. However, you can’t hear the sound in a noisy surrounding.
Gionee A1 Specification
The smartphone has a MediaTek Helio P10 octa-core chip with 4GB of RAM. In this segment, it isn’t the best one for sure.

The A1 is suitable for moderate users. If you are an aggressive user and want the phone to perform multiple tasks simultaneously, it will struggle a bit. Besides 4GB of RAM, the smartphone has 64GB of internal storage.
For basic operations, the smartphone doesn’t have any unusual heating. However, when playing graphic-heavy games, it does become warm. For high-end games such as Nova 3, the smartphone gets abnormally hot.

Gionee A1 Price
Gionee A1 price in India is from ₹ 11,999.
Gionee A1 Software

The A1 has Android 7.0 Nougat and custom Amigo 4.0 OS of Gionee. The good thing about this UI is that it isn’t filled with useless features and apps. Features like Smart Gesture let you use gestures to fasten up your tasks. Overall, the Gionee A1 has well enough design, build, display, camera, and battery. However, for aggressive users, we wouldn’t recommend it.
