The budget phone segment in India are filled with the best smartphones from Oppo, Vivo, Asus, Nokia, Realme, Xiaomi, and others. Recently, giant phone brand Samsung has also tried their luck in the segment with its Galaxy M and Galaxy A series. To make things easier for you, we have compiled a list of the best smartphones in the sub-Rs. 10,000 price range. Redmi Note 7

This handset is one of the latest offerings from Xiaomi’s sub-brand Redmi in the budget segment.

The device packs a 6.3-inch FHD+ IPS LCD panel with a dewdrop notch on the top and Gorilla Glass 5 protection. Under the hood, it is powered by a Snapdragon 660 SoC, coupled with either 4GB or 6GB RAM as well as 64GB storage which is expandable via a microSD card slot. In terms of software, it will run Xiaomi’s MIUI 10 at launch.

In terms of camera, the handset will come with a dual camera setup, including a 12MP main sensor and a 2MP depth sensor, coupled with a single LED Flash at the back. The camera setup is backed with Pixel Binning technology as well as AI to improve the camera quality. Up front, there is a 13MP selfie camera.

Xiaomi sets the pricing of the handset in the Indian market at Rs. 9,999 for the 3GB RAM/32GB storage option and Rs. 11,999 for the variant with 4GB RAM/64GB storage. The 4GB RAM is slightly higher than the Rs. 10,000 mark, but you will still be good with the 3GB RAM.

ASUS ZenFone Max Pro M2

Not just Xiaomi, other companies like Asus and Realme are also making the budget and mid-range segments very competitive. The ZenFone Max Pro M1 launched last year was one of the best smartphones for its price. Later in the year, the company launched its successor, the ZenFone Max Pro M2, hoping it to follow the success of the Max Pro M1.

Similar to the other two phones, the ZenFone Max Pro M2 also comes with an IPS LCD panel with 6.26 inches in size, FHD+ resolution, and a notch on top. It is the first handset to be protected by the latest Corning Gorilla Glass 6. As for the processor, it is powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 660 SoC with 3GB/4GB/6GB of RAM and 32GB/64GB of internal storage (expandable up to 512GB).

Its cameras include 12MP and 5MP secondary rear sensors and a 13MP selfie camera on the front. Similar to the Galaxy M20, it packs a massive 5,000mAh cell and ships with the dated Android 8.1 Oreo with Asus’ ZenUI on top. It is promised to receive an update to the latest Android 9 Pie sometime this year.

Asus also goes for an aggressive pricing on this handset. Its price starts from Rs. 9,999 for the model with 3GB RAM/32GB of internal storage and goes all the way up to Rs. 11,999 for the 4GB RAM/64GB of internal storage option and Rs. 13,99 for the 6GB RAM/64GB storage.

Realme 5

The Realme 5 comes with a different design on its back. It features a diamond pattern on its back with the same polycarbonate build. The device boasts a 6.5-inch display with HD+ resolution, which is not a significant issue as brightness and colors are still decent. Software-wise, it ships with Android 9 Pie-based ColorOS 6 out of the box. Powering the phone is a Snapdragon 665 chipset and available in three memory configurations. During our review, its gaming and overall performance are good and it didn't heat up too much as well.

Samsung Galaxy M10

The Galaxy M10 is one of the latest attempts from Samsung to come back to the budget segment. The phone is launched under the new Galaxy M series of Samsung.

It sports a 6.2-inch Infinity-V HD+ display. Under the hood, the Samsung Galaxy M10 comes packed with a Samsung’s Exynos 7870 SoC coupled with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage but it is also offered in another option with 3GB of RAM/32GB of storage.

The Galaxy M10 features a dual camera setup on the rear, comprising of a 13MP main sensor and a 5MP secondary sensor. On the front, the handset sports a 5MP sensor for taking selfies and video calls. The budget offering is backed by a decent 3,400 mAh battery with the traditional Micro-USB and runs Experience UI 9.5 based on Android 8.1 Oreo.

Nokia 5.1 Plus

The Nokia handset has one of the best design on our list. It packs a 5.8-inch display with HD+ resolution. Powering the phone is an MTK Helio P60 SoC paired with 3GB RAM/32GB of storage. It comes with a dual camera setup at the rear, including a 13MP main sensor and a 5MP depth sensor. Users can take selfies and video call with a 8MP selfie camera on the front.

It is backed by a 3,060mAh cell with a USB Type-C port. As for software, the phone is a part of the Android One program, so it is more likely to have a more timely update. The phone runs Android 8.1 Oreo at launch, but you can update it to Android 9 Pie via an update.

It is currently up for sale for Rs. 8,999 for the option with 3GB RAM/32GB storage. The two top-end options with 4GB RAM/64GB storage and 6GB RAM/64GB storage are priced at Rs. 13,999 and Rs. 15,999, respectively.
