In attempts to prevent the spread of fake news, Facebook will limit the number of forwarding times for a message in Messengers. From now on, you won’t be able to forward a message to more than 5 people and groups at a time.

Previously, WhatsApp rolled out a limit that allowed users to forward a message to just one person or group at a time. And before that, the popular messaging platform launched a new icon showing users if a message is original or forwarded. In a blog post, Jay Sullivan, Product Management Director, said:
“As a part of our ongoing efforts to provide people with a safer, more private messaging experience, today we’re introducing a forwarding limit on Messenger, so messages can only be forwarded to five people or groups at a time. Limiting forwarding is an effective way to slow the spread of viral misinformation and harmful content that has the potential to cause real-world harm.”
With the new feature, Messengers users can forward a message to a maximum of 5 people and groups at a time. If one try to forward it to more people, they will see a pop-up message that says “forwarding limit reached.”

Sullivan added that it’s critical to control the spread of misinformation while the COVID-19 pandemic is still going on and elections are getting close. According to Sullivan, Facebook is taking steps to provide accurate information and greater transparency for people.
For example, it set up the Coronavirus Community Hub to help people access the latest information as well as resources to help them stay safe.
