At the beginning of this year, Jan Koum, the co-founder of WhatsApp, announced on his leaving the company to enjoy playing Frisbee and collecting rare air-cooled Porsches. At present, he has decided to sell some of his favorite cars because he has no time to drive them around. Maybe it’s not worth surprising when the number of Porsches to be sold reaches 10!
Petrolicious revealed that all of these ten cars will become a part of the Amelia Island Auction of the Gooding & Company, which takes place every year. This year, the auction will be held on March 8th.
For those unaware, Jan Koum has had a great passion for the top-ranked Luxury Sports Cars, Porches since he was a teenager under 16. When he and his mother had just moved from Kiev, Ukraine to the US, they were so mean that they had to live on welfare. At that time, Koum did all piece work to earn money, and his primary motivation to put more efforts on work came from Porsche beauties he saw.
Many years have gone by, until 2006, he firstly owned a 2003 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet. After using all convertible cars, the WhatsApp’s CEO finally decided to create a collection including original air-cooled Porsche models which were manufactured since the 1990s.
He uncovered that he has been too busy to drive any one of these ten luxury cars, and having them unused in the storage as now is really unnecessary. Koum wishes he had enough time, as well as garage space to keep all his cars; however, he also wanted to see the new owners experience the happy moments with these Porsches on the racetrack or the road.
