TikTok's Parent ByteDance Unveils Its First Smartphone

Rumors about a smartphone developed by ByteDance – the name behind the phenomenal video-sharing app TikTok – have flied around the media for a long time. Now, the Chinese company has already revealed its first smartphone model called Jianguo Pro 3. Prior to the official news, the device was believed to have the name “Nut Pro 3” instead of Jianguo Pro 3, though the word “Jianguo” in Chinese is equivalent to “nut”.

The smartphone will continue to remain "Smartisan" brand.

The device is a collaboration between the company and a well-known Chinese phone maker named Smartisan. As such, it’ll be labeled with the Smartisan brand. Earlier this year, a number of patents and talents from Smartisan have become a part of ByteDance after it bargained a deal with the phone maker. ByteDance then took part in the project of making Jianguo Pro 3 and supported it with a bunch of branded features. Despite that, the device is slated to keep its naming scheme.

According to some reports, owners of the phone can easily swipe up the lock screen to open up Douyin – an alternative version of TikTok in China. In addition to this, users can make up their videos with TikTok-based effects and filters, either short or long-time footage. Thanks to that, the Smartisan-branded smartphone will on behalf of ByteDance to share its popularity in new ways.

Up to now, the smartphone has hit the Chinese market with a price tag of 2,900 yuan (around $410). The Jianguo Pro 3 features four cameras, a Snapdragon 855+ chipset. Depending on specific variants, it will support up to 256GB of storage and 12GB of RAM.
