Spotify is still way ahead of other competitors, the closest of which is Apple Music with 60 million subscribers as of June.

As of the end of September, Spotify reported 113 million subscribers, this is a rise of 31 percent compared with one year ago, according to the company’s third-quarter report released on Monday. And India has 2 million active users on this platform as of August. This means the platform is still way ahead of other competitors, the closest of which is Apple Music with 60 million subscribers as of June.

The platform now has 113 million subscribers around the world

This figure is almost equal to the company’s top prediction in July. Also on Monday, the music-streaming platform said that 248 million people worldwide use its service at least once every month, which is 30% higher than this time last year. One difference between Apple Music and Spotify is that the latter lets people listen to music for free, but with advertising. Apple, on the other hand, never revealed statistics for the number of monthly active users as most people using its music streaming service are also subscribers.

Spotify launched in India in February, and in the first week, the platform got one million users, and in one month, it got more than 2 million active users.

It introduced a standalone Lite app for users with lower-end phones, lousy internet, and limited storage

Six months after the launch, Spotify claimed to be one of the three largest players in the Indian cluttered music-streaming market in terms of consumption. With less than 1% of India’s listeners paying for content, it appears that Spotify made the right decision introducing a free-tier in the country.

Besides, the company has also rolled out Spotify Lite, a standalone app for those with an unstable internet connection, lower-end Android phones, or limited mobile storage. According to Spotify India’s MD Amarjit Singh Batra, the company is making sure its service will become more accessible to Indian people.

Apple Music is currently the closest competitor with 60 million subscribers

As the world is shifting to listening to music through streaming services, Apple Music and Spotify lead the race to earn the most subscribers. And while Spotify is still the biggest service of this kind regarding both subscribers and listeners, there are over 900 iPhones across the globe, giving it an advantage in presenting the service to more people, especially in the US, iPhone’s largest markets.

Meanwhile, Spotify predicted to have between 120 million and 125 million paid subscribers by year-end. Additionally, it expected the number of monthly active users to go up to 255-270 million.
